Zero minutes, not benched
A player is only replaced if he plays no part at all. One minute off the bench keeps him in your eleven, and he scores whatever he scores.
Your sub has to have played too
A replacement who also stayed on the bench cannot come in. If nobody on your bench played, the slot simply scores zero.
Your formation still has to be legal
FPL will skip a substitute who would leave you short at the back or without a striker, and move to the next one on your bench instead.
Keepers only swap with keepers
Your outfield bench cannot cover a goalkeeper. Only your second keeper replaces your first.
None of this happens when the teams are announced. FPL works it out once every match in the gameweek has finished, so anything we tell you before then is what is on course to happen, not what has.
